If you’ve been in a car accident, the sudden impact can cause a variety of symptoms that can manifest itself the day of the accident, the day after or weeks later. Some common injuries include Whiplash, Concussions, back strains, shoulder strains and fractures.
Whiplash
On impact, the head rapidly goes forward and back. The muscles of the neck act like a whip to bring the head back into a neutral position. This causes strain on the muscles and ligaments of the neck. Our therapists can assess the impact and areas of injury to determine the best treatment plan for your needs.
Concussion
If you are experiencing headaches, nausea, dizziness, decreased balance, fatigue, blurred vision, memory loss, sensitivity to light, difficulty with thinking/concentrating, or sleep disturbances, it is important to take the necessary precautions as advised by your Physician or Therapist.
Low back strain
On impact, any segment of the back can be jolted forward, back or sideways putting pressure on the disc, ligament or muscles of the back. Physiotherapy, Chiropractic or Massage Therapy useevidence-basedstrategies to get you back to your pre-accident state.
Shoulder strain
With a strong grip on your steering wheel and a forward or sideways jolt, a translation of the humerus can cause strain to the shoulder capsule, rotator cuff muscles and ligaments. Talk to a physiotherapist today to assess and treat your shoulder pain.
Fractures
If you’re recovering from a fracture, you’re likely feeling pain and stiffness from the effects of immobilization. Being in a sling, cast or boot allows for the bone to heal post fracture. However, it is important to get your movement back as soon as possible. By seeing one of our experienced Physiotherapists, we will assess your range of motion, strength and function and get you back to moving again when it is safe to do so.
Who will pay for my treatment?
You are automatically eligible for your car insurance to pay for your treatment under minor or major injury guidelines. In the province of Ontario, we have a not-at-fault insurance system that bills all accident-related expenses to your own car insurance company regardless of who was at fault in the accident. The law further states that if you have personal/extended health care coverage, this must be used first before your car insurance pays for any remaining treatment.
Can I choose the clinic where I do my rehabilitation?
The law allows you to choose the licensed clinic where you attend your therapy. Our clinic is a licensed service provider and offers direct billing to both your extended health care plan and car insurance. Our therapists are trained in filling out the paperwork that your insurance company requires including the OCF 23 and OCF 18.
Our health professionals have in-depth training in treating injuries associated with motor vehicle accidents using evidence-based practices. We make it our motto to return you to a pre accident status as soon as possible. Free consults are available to discuss your individual case.
